Expanding 2-1-1 coverage in North Carolina depends on everyone. You can play a role in increasing access to 2-1-1 in your community by contacting your legislator to request their support for 2-1-1.
Contact your Representative in the U. S. House of Representatives to let them know 2-1-1 would be an asset to your community. (Sample letter)

Key messages to share with your legislator by phone or in person:
- 2-1-1 is a simple to remember number that provides access to vital health and human service information in your community 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year.
- There are more than 20,000 nonprofits in North Carolina in addition to many governmental agencies. Successfully navigating this maze of services can be confusing and complicated. 2-1-1 makes connecting to the right answers easy.
- 2-1-1 is a critical planning tool. Data about the types of calls 2-1-1 receives helps local communities identify needs, gaps in services and helps communities anticipate demand for services.
- 2-1-1 responds immediately in times of crisis by serving as a conduit for callers to locate services to meet their needs and to access critical information after a crisis or tragedy.
- The Calling for 2-1-1 Act (HR211 or S211) requests a $150 million investment in years one and two and a $100 million investment in years three through five to help implement and sustain 2-1-1 nationwide.
- 2-1-1 is a cost effective way to connect people to help. Read a one-page summary of a cost/benefit analysis completed by the University of Texas.
Awareness and support of 2-1-1 are key to its expansion in North Carolina.
